CLAIREFONTAINE, France (AP)—France coach Laurent Blanc called up midfielder Yohan Cabaye and defender Anthony Reveillere for European Championship qualifiers against Belarus and Bosnia-Herzegovina as cover for the injured Lassana Diarra.
The versatile Diarra picked up a hamstring strain in Real Madrid’s Spanish league opener at the weekend and was ruled out for both games on Monday.

“Those things also happen at club level,” said Blanc, who coached Bordeaux to the French title in 2009. “But our problem is that most of the unavailable players usually play in the same area (midfield).”
France’s injury concerns could soon worsen after striker Karim Benzema’s training session was cut short Monday after receiving a knock on his right ankle.
France spokesman Philippe Tournon said Benzema’s injury “doesn’t look serious.”

In South Africa, France exited a major tournament in the first round without winning a game for the second consecutive time. The players also embarrassed their country with a training strike intended to protest Nicolas Anelka’s expulsion from the squad following a foul-mouthed tirade at Domenech.
France will play its first home game since the World Cup against Belarus at Stade de France, and Blanc is hoping the fans won’t take it out on his players.
“I don’t know what the fans are hatching for us, but hopefully we will receive a positive welcome,” Blanc said. “I hope the people who will be there will be in the mood for football. If some of them want let off steam, I would advise them to go somewhere else.”
France, which has won the European Championship twice and the 1998 World Cup, recently dropped to the 21st place in the FIFA rankings, and Blanc needs to rebuild a team that was left in ruins by his predecessor.
“I’m encouraging everyone to show humility,” Blanc said. “I’m hearing that we have two easy games to play. But the reality is far different from this.”
Blanc said his main task is to restore confidence in his players, who will practice with former Titans jersey

German player banned for being ready to fix matches
BERLIN, Aug 30 (Reuters) - A German player formerly with Bundesliga second division club VfL Osnabrueck has been banned for two years and nine months for appearing willing to help fix matches, the German soccer federation (DFB) said on Monday.

South Africa: Most unsafe World Cup ever?
JOHANNESBURG – At some point people have to realize this World Cup is not safe, that South Africa, in its valiant attempt to host soccer’s biggest tournament, is unable to guarantee a team won’t be attacked or that fans won’t be harmed in the streets, their hotels or the stands.
The latest hole to appear in the porous security appeared in Cape Town, when a fan left the stands at the end of football jersey England’s match with Algeria, walked through several lines of security wearing his England shirt and right into the team’s locker room only moments after Princes Harry and William had departed. The fan encountered David Beckham, who eventually encouraged him to leave, but not before exposing to all involved – the police, FIFA and private security firms – that they are unable to protect much of anything at the World Cup.
After walking into the locker room and confronting the English players, the fan was cornered and marched out of the locker room and escorted out of the stadium.
And this was supposed to be one of the most secure matches, one of 11 identified by authorities before the tournament as having the highest risk of terrorist attack. But apparently all you have to do to gain admission to the inner sanctum, the most protected place at the World Cup, is to wear an England jersey. You’ll slip right in.
Who knows where to direct the blame? As with every other incident here, from the near stampede at a friendly between Nigeria and North Korea the week before the World Cup to the robberies of several visiting journalists to riots involving striking workers, nobody wants to accept responsibility. They point fingers, they argue, they make statements and they call press conferences. And as they do, safety deteriorates. It’s to the point where you are surprised if a police officer actually stops someone from going into an unauthorized place.
Mostly, nobody seems to know what is restricted and what isn’t, who can enter a locked area and who is forbidden. Rules mean nothing.
Which is why many American visitors have hired private security firms to take them around Johannesburg.

It wasn’t until we had reached the deep insides of the IBC, where the international networks keep their offices, that it came clear how serious a security breach this was. It’s a fact that was confirmed by a woman from FIFA who encountered us and looked stunned when we told her we had walked in unchecked. We left immediately, unsettled.
The job of protecting most of the World Cup’s stadiums has now fallen to South Africa’s police force. Already the police have been stretched thin, bringing in detectives and undercover officers to work at the stadiums. Not that it has done a great deal of good. On the day the U.S. played England in Rustenburg, a match attended by vice president Joe Biden, at least two vans of discount nfl jerseys journalists without proper parking credentials raced by at least three checkpoints until they were inside the final ring of security.

JOHANNESBURG – They stood on a curb in Soweto, hands in the pockets of their jackets, faces staring at the ground. There was a chill to the late afternoon. Suddenly, Soweto felt colder than it had in those first bright days of the World Cup.
“Bafana Bafana, I’m disappointed,” said Simon Baloyi, a young man in his early 20s, shaking his head.
A woman behind him nodded slowly.
“They suck,” she added.
How fast South Africa has turned on its soccer team.
Barely more than two weeks ago, Soweto was alive. So was South Africa. The entire country had come together for its national team, Bafana Bafana. This was a new thing, as Bafana Bafana hadn’t given South Africa much to be excited about in previous years. For most of nfl jerseys three decades it was forbidden to compete internationally because of apartheid and even after those restrictions were lifted in 1992 it still only qualified for two World Cups, never advancing past the first round.
But this time seemed different. This time South Africa was hosting the World Cup and every host team in the history of the World Cup has always advanced to the second round. So when Bafana Bafana played well in friendlies leading up to the tournament, people began to believe that the magic of playing at home would somehow push the team into the round of 16.
More than a few suggested Bafana Bafana could win the whole World Cup no matter how ridiculous a thought that might have been. They believed it. South Africa was in love with Bafana Bafana. The day before the World Cup there was a huge parade for the team that was held in the suburb of Sandton. Hundreds of thousands of people, both black and white, lined the streets wearing the yellow jersey of the mostly black Bafana team. People talked about the team bringing the races together; white people rushing to adopt a sport that has long been the domain of black South Africa.
And when Siphiwe Tshabalala scored the first goal of the World Cup, South Africa went mad.
Eventually, Bafana Bafana wound up in a 1-1 tie with Mexico, but the country still pulsed with hope. A tie with Mexico was victory nonetheless. The party lasted for days.
Then it died. The death came last Wednesday in Pretoria when the South Africans lost 3-0 to Uruguay in a performance as dismal those of previous years. The defeat was so thorough that the only way for Bafana Bafana to advance to the next round is to beat France and hope to make up a goal difference of Warren Sapp Jersey at least five or six goals with the loser of Mexico-Uruguay.
In other words, South Africa will be the first host to not move on.
Now, nobody is wearing yellow jerseys anymore. The radio announcers don’t shout “Bafana Bafana!” the way they had before. Nobody sings. Nobody dances. It’s as if the euphoria was sucked from the country in a matter of hours while losing to Uruguay.
In the days that followed Bafana’s defeat, stories of dissention among the players surfaced. Rumors of cliques arose with one paper reporting that the players from Soweto had distanced themselves from those who came from KwaZulu-Natal on the country’s eastern coast.
One of the KwaZulu-Natal players, the beautifully named MacBeth Sibaya, ripped his teammates for their effort against Uruguay and told the South Africa Sunday Times: “It will be like climbing Mount Everest against France.”
Of course, France has its own problems, with an uninspiring tie, a devastating loss and a team mutiny on Sunday in which the players refused to practice after coach Raymond Domenech kicked striker Nicolas Anelka off the team. But even if the French team doesn’t try against South Africa, Bafana Bafana’s chances still look meager.
“My heart is broken, and my kidney too,” lamented Fortune Mpofu, a waiter at a restaurant in Alberton just outside Johannesburg.
Now the country will try to figure out went wrong again.
On the street in Soweto, Freddie Mnyathel blamed the team’s coach, Carlos Alberto Parreira, a Brazilian. Parreira did not do enough to help Bafana Bafana’s weak scoring attack, said Mnyathel, who also described South Africa’s players as “very, very lazy.”
Standing with Mnyathel, Raphale Maruping said Parreira is a good coach, too good for Bafana. “For the standard of nfl store our players we don’t need him as our coach,” he said. “We need someone who is going to come in and grow our team.”

Praise flows for Packers Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers(notes) is about to make the Big Three the Big Four. Rodgers has been so impressive in Green Bay Packers preseason games, it's hard to imagine he won't join Peyton Manning(notes), Tom Brady(notes) and Drew Brees(notes) at nfl jerseys the elite level this season.

Aubrayo Franklin signs tender, ready to rejoin 49ers
Nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin(notes) ended his lengthy holdout Saturday by signing a $7.003 million franchise tag tender with the San Francisco 49ers.
