Vernon Davis cashes in with 49ers

Vernon Davis(notes) was next in line for a new contract with the San Francisco 49ers after linebacker Patrick Willis(notes) cashed in.

Pro Bowl tight end was rewarded on the eve of the start of the Niners’ season at Sunday in Seattle as he received a five-year contract extension.
The new deal will make Davis the highest-paid Minnesota Vikings jersey
tight end in the NFL, vaulting him just ahead of Antonio Gates(notes) of the San Diego Chargers, according to NFL.com.
Gates’ deal is worth $37 million and he will receive $23 million guaranteed, the number that really matter. This is the final year of the rookie contract Davis received and now he is under contract through 2015.
Davis had a breakout season as Alex Smith’s Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
favorite target last season when he caught 78 passes for 965 yards to go with 13 touchdowns.
